In Death Note, L describes himself as having a "childish nature", one who is competitive, unyielding and hates to lose. Highly intelligent and perceptive, he will use whatever means he can and even take drastic, and sometimes questionable, measures to achieve his aims and hunt down the truth until he is satisfied. He is also a risk taker and has no qualms about disclosing his weaknesses and risking his life if it means having a chance to nail down his suspect. As a result, he is often misunderstood.

L is also an introvert and does not have friends; in fact, he describe Light as his first friend. This is, however, a lie. In fact, L lies without batting an eyelid.
